The Civic Health of Wisconsin initiative is dedicated to strengthening current civic health efforts around Wisconsin, to spur innovation and foster more connected and engaged communities. We define “Civic Health” to mean individual and collective engagement for communities to define and address public problems and work toward conditions which allow all Wisconsin communities to truly thrive, and promote democracy in which all can participate. The Initiative includes a steering group and broader network of nonpartisan organizations involved in civic health efforts spanning democratic participation, volunteerism, civics education, and connecting across difference, among other issues. Please join key facilitator of the Initiative Mary Beth Collins to hear about findings and updates from the Initiative’s work and reporting on the state of Civic Health in Wisconsin in dynamic and historic times. Collins will also share about current interpretations of these issues by leading scholars and global civil society. Consider critical opportunity areas for civic health – including the media landscape, education, polarization, loneliness, trust in institutions, and civic engagement. Learn and exchange about tangible ways we can all be a part of the movement, or enhance our commitment and engagement, for better civic health in our communities and in the world.

    About Our Speaker:

Mary Beth Collins, J.D., M.A., currently serves as the Executive Director of UW-Madison Center for Community and Nonprofit Studies, where she and her team conduct teaching, research, and outreach about community efforts and the nonprofit and civil society sectors.
