In-person Networking: 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Livestream and Program: 12:15 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Join us on Tuesday, May 9 for a presentation by Kelly Lecker, executive editor of the Wisconsin State Journal about the state of news media.
The internet changed the way people read news and the very foundation of newspaper business models. Then came smart phones, Twitter and a narrative that mainstream media was not trustworthy. These rapid changes challenged the industry but also pushed newspapers to own their mistakes, consider their relationship with the audience they serve and how they could better reflect and cover all parts of their communities.
About Kelly Lecker:
Kelly Lecker has been the executive editor of the Wisconsin State Journal since April 2022. It was a homecoming of sorts, as she grew up on a dairy farm in northeast Wisconsin and the State Journal sent her to the national spelling bee in 1985. Before her return to Wisconsin, Kelly worked as a reporter, editor and digital news manager at papers in Fort Wayne, Ind., Toledo and more recently Columbus, Ohio. In Columbus, she served as managing editor and interim editor and led several nationally recognized reporting projects. She lives on the South Side with her giant dog, Fezzik.
