Join us on Monday, May 4, at noon for our monthly luncheon to talk travel (and other rewiree stuff).

No agenda, no expectations. Just a chance to casually enjoy the company of incredible women, most of whom (but not all) are or have been Tempo members at one time. Current Tempo membership is not required.

We will meet at noon at the Imperial Garden, University & Allen Blvd., in the private room (Garden Room) off the main dining room.

Debbie Borth of Camera Kisses will host a Headshot Event before the "Putting Your Best Voice Forward: A Public Speaking Workshop" on Thursday, May 7, at the Atmosphere Commercial Interiors off University Ave.

She will set up her studio at Atmosphere Commercial Interiors from 4:15 pm - 5:30 p.m. You can pop in for a quick, highly discounted headshot before the workshop or stop by for your headshot only!

Debbie will communicate and deliver your headshot directly to you.

Pricing and options:

One image with basic retouch: $75 (individual savings of $285)
Add additional images or Photoshop retouch: $30 each

Workshop Highlights

Deliver key messages that stay with your audience long after the presentation.

Determine your first steps when asked to speak.
Use preparation and practice to perfect your presentation.
Effectively use your voice and speech pattern to have your message resonate.
Adjust the “tools” in the room to maximize your delivery.
Capture and retain the attention of your audience.
Manage the “jitters” and use them to your advantage
Prepare for an interview versus a presentation, and manage questions.
Share a brief presentation (one to three minutes), with the group applying what you learned. (Optional)
Share your speaking experiences—both successes and challenges—with each other to learn and grow.

The Presenters

Jackie Judd: Emmy-award-winning journalist Jackie Judd spent her career in front of a television camera or radio microphone and now helps people find their way to excellence when speaking to groups - large, small, or something in between. Jackie worked for many years as a correspondent for ABC News, the PBS NewsHour, and NPR. Now, as a consultant, she has engaged with hundreds of people—ranging from a Fortune 100 CEO to human rights activists around the globe—guiding them toward successful public speaking.

Carol Koby: An experienced broadcaster and moderator, Carol Koby has had an extensive career in communications, most recently as Executive Producer/Host of the long-running radio program "All About Living" and Moderator of the cable television program "Picture of Health" for UW Health. A pioneer in television journalism, Carol was the first Women’s Director at WITI-TV, Milwaukee, and served in many on-air roles at WKOW-TV in Madison. Carol continues to use her public speaking skills by moderating in-person and Zoom forums for the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin.

This presentation will introduce the audience to what they likely don’t know about Madison College: Its programs, its commitments, and its essential role in the community. Woven through will be my own learning about female-centric leadership, especially focused on how female leaders can support and encourage those coming up in their professions.

Finally, Dr. Berne hope to engage the audience members in a unified understanding of how our collective action in support of woman and families can make a significant difference in disrupting generational poverty and creating the possibility for social mobility in our communities.

About our Speaker: Dr. Jennifer Berne serves as the ninth President of Madison College, a role she began in July of 2025. Dr. Berne has held tenured faculty teaching and research positions at 2 and 4 year institutions in both Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Colleges of Education. Her research centers on the ways in which teachers’ own literacy experiences effect their work with students, and these insights have underpinned the ideas contained in her 5 books on literacy education.

After leaving the classroom, she worked as a senior administrator at community colleges in 4 different states. She is an Aspen Presidential Fellow and holds a Ph.D. from Michigan State University, an MA from Northeastern University and an MBA and BA from the University of Michigan.

Corporate and Business Board Members have important oversight responsibilities and are the highest governing authority within the management structure of a business/corporation. While you may have the skills and knowledge to add value to a corporate/business board, it is essential to be able to communicate your background and expertise in a succinct and effective biography.

TEMPO Madison’s Women on Boards is excited to bring back our popular, two-part virtual board bio workshop with ML Wattman. Participants will leave this workshop with a complete (or almost complete) board bio that they can begin using immediately.

Completed bios will be added to Project REACH's Database of Board Candidates, which is available to companies in search of board members or other interested stakeholders.

Registration: $20.00 with the opportunity to meet one-on-one with ML to review your biography

About Mary Lou Wattman, President, Executive Coach, Public Speaking, Author

Mary Lou has 35 years of leadership experience working with Fortune 100 and Fortune 1000 companies. She has held leadership positions at Procter and Gamble and International Paper, and P&L, President, COO and board positions at for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.

MBA and Certified Coach: Mary Lou holds an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management in Marketing and Organizational Behavior, and BA in Business Management and Economic, Cum Laude from North Carolina State University.
