Frozen Lakes 101 Science Café & Ice Happy Hour:

What’s Under the Ice?

Monday, January 29, 2024 @ The Edgewater

4:00-5:00 p.m. (science café in the Grand Ballroom)

5:00-6:00 p.m. (happy hour in the Boathouse)

Join Clean Lakes Alliance and TEMPO of Madison on Monday, January 29 from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Edgewater Hotel to hear from Dr. Hilary Dugan and Dr. Zach Feiner from the Center for Limnology who will share the ecological and physiological changes our lakes undergo to prepare for ice cover, and what life looks like under the ice.

Most lakes in Wisconsin are frozen for 3-5 months per year. Have you ever wondered what happens in lakes in the winter? Learn about the unique physics, chemistry, and biology of our lakes during this fascinating time of the year, and what a warming climate means for the future of Wisconsin’s lakes.

Following the presentation, participants are invited to join the Ice Happy Hour and enjoy a complimentary drink in The Edgewater’s Boathouse.  Come enjoy a beverage on us and venture out onto the ice to watch or experience activities like curling and ice bowling.
