Join us on Tuesday, April 9  for a presentation by Bethany Jurewicz, Director of Public Programming and Business Operations at Garver Events, about Femmestival.

At inception, Femmestival’s goal was to provide a platform to a defined group – women, femmes, and non-binary small business owners. Now in its 4th year, Femmestival favors acceptance of BIPOC vendors and vendors that have been operating less than 5 years. With over 150 femme applicants for 60 vendors spots, organizers look to the original mission for guidance when choosing participants - providing a fee-free opportunity with operational support for those who stand to benefit the most. In practice, that mission plays out as small-scale affirmative action.

Jurewicz will discuss the impacts and challenges of upholding the principles of Femmestival originally set forth by herself and co-founder Francesca Hong - to remove barriers and make conscious decisions in an effort ensure opportunity for everyone in Madison’s culinary and visual arts economy.

About Bethany Jurewicz:  Bethany Jurewicz is a co-owner and the Director of Public Programming and Business Operations for Garver Events, the operating company of Garver Feed Mill. Bethany also serves as Vice-chair on the Madison Arts Commission.

After gaining a master’s degree in Contemporary Art Theory from Sotheby’s Institute in London, Bethany moved to New York City and developed an expansive career in the food, beverage, and event industries. She relocated to Madison in 2014 and currently lives in the Atwood neighborhood on Madison's east side. Upon arrival, she gained employment as the business manager for various organizations while simultaneously producing large-scale culinary and visual art pop-ups as fundraisers for local non-profits, including The Apartment Project, Municipal, Makeshift, and the CSArt Dinner Series. The events she produces now exclusively reside at Garver where she co-founded Femmestival with Francesca Hong in 2020, an annual culinary and visual arts festival that aims to uplift women, femme, and non-binary creative entrepreneurs. In addition to large-scale events, markets, and concerts, Bethany also programs the exhibitions at Garver Canvas, the contemporary art gallery at Garver Feed Mill while also overseeing Garver Events’ budgeting, financials, and marketing.
