Join us in-person or virtually on Tuesday, August 9 as Lori Lopez, Professor of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, discusses Hmong women and media entrepreneurship. Based on 6 years of fieldwork in Hmong American communities in Wisconsin, this research presentation explores the unique opportunities and challenges facing Hmong American media entrepreneurs and the innovative forms of media Hmong women have developed as refugees, immigrants, and American citizens.
About Lori Lopez:
Dr. Lori Kido Lopez is Professor of Communication Arts and Director of the Asian American Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has published many books, including Asian American Media Activism: Fighting for Cultural Citizenship and Micro Media Industries: Hmong American Media Innovation in the Diaspora. Her research examines the way that minority groups use media in the fight for social justice, particularly focusing on Asian American communities and media cultures.
Lori Lopez will be appearing in-person at the Madison Club. Members can choose between attending in person or virtually. Guests are welcome to attend in person or virtually.
