Shana Lewis is a trusted advisor to more than 50 public school districts across Wisconsin. With more than twenty years of experience with three law firms and teaching at two universities. Shana guides school and municipal boards and senior management in mitigating risk and addressing legal issues. Shana serves as Vice President for her law firm’s Board of Directors and was on the compensation committee for her previous law firm. She has served in leadership positions on numerous not-for-profit boards. She is a frequent speaker on matters of import for professional organizations and has been recognized in numerous publications across the State of Wisconsin for her legal expertise and leadership.
In 2015, Shana founded the law firm of Renning Lewis and Lacy, s.c. (formerly known as Strang Patteson Renning Lewis and Lacy, s.c.). Her area of expertise is providing school and municipal boards, private sector employers, and senior management in both the public and private sectors with guidance in regard to a broad range of legal matters, including, but not limited to, labor and employment matters, harassment, bullying, and discrimination investigations, leading compliant hearings and meetings, navigating records retention and disclosure, and making strategic decisions to avoid or plan for potential litigation. Shana has deep experience with federal and state regulatory agencies. She is known for managing and mitigating risk for school districts and other entities and employers.
Before establishing her own firm, Shana was an equity shareholder with Davis & Kuelthau, s.c., in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and an equity partner with Lathrop & Clark LLP, in Madison, Wisconsin.
Shana teaches School District Law for the master’s and educational doctorate programs at Edgewood College and has done so for nearly 20 years. Previously, she served as an adjunct professor at University of Wisconsin School of Business. Shana presently serves as a District Board member for Madison Area Technical College.
Shana is a member of the Wisconsin State Bar, the Dane County Bar Association, the Legal Association for Women, and National School Board Association Council of School Attorneys, the Wisconsin School Attorneys Association. She previously served on the governance board for the Wisconsin School Attorneys Association.
Shana has significant not-for-profit board experience. She is a Board Member for American Players Theatre, a Past President of TEMPO Madison, a member of the TEMPO Madison Foundation Advisory Board, and Secretary for the Greenridge Piers and Parks Association. Previously, Shana served as a member of the governance boards for A Fund for Women, Theatre LILA, Forward Theater Company, and the Madison Repertory Theatre.
Shana earned a B.A. and a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is originally from a northern suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but currently resides just outside of Madison, Wisconsin.
